Subject: Sin, Shame and Sorrow, Baby!
This book isn't quite as full of sex and hair-tearing outrageousness as its scandalous history might suggest. Every move of the plot is laced with little asides of how wrong the heroine is, how she could have stayed on the right path, etc. But to contemporary readers, that was probably just the narrative version of 'Wait! Stop! We mustn't!' But we do, and it's fun all the way to hell!
